March is Women's History Month.. Today the girls picked a name of a famous woman in American history that they will research and teach the class about on their day of sharing. In their backpack today you will find the name of their famous woman, directions and a record sheet, and an index card to use to make a "trading card". If extra copies are needed, directions, website links, and record sheets are also posted under "Important Documents" on the right hand side of this page. Please let me know if you have any questions. Have fun researching!!
Check in frequently to see photos, read stories, and get news about all of the happenings of 7-B. We're excited for our fun-filled year together!

Happy Friday!
We're back in the swing of things! We enjoyed visiting the Book Swap today. We also did very well learning our spelling words during a short week. Great job, girls!
A Look Ahead:
*Next week's spelling words are: was, going, always, a lot, next, also, until, upon, scared, lived, stayed, and across
*Next week we will write a poem titled Wishes. A brainstorming homework page came home today to complete. Please return it on Monday.
*The Girls' Dance Assembly is scheduled for March 14th. They have been practicing almost every day in gym class. Have you seen any of it at home? :) We are asking for each girl to bring in a pair of white, canvas sneakers that we will decorate with glitter, ribbons, and pom poms to be worn at the performance. We would like all sneakers in by March 3rd.
*Next Tuesday we will attend the "March Reading Madness" Assembly. We're excited to hear all the details from Mrs. Stone.
*Next Friday is a 12:30 dismissal. Students attending ASC should bring a lunch. Reading Teacher-Parent Conferences will be held from 1pm-5pm. Conference sign-ups close tomorrow.
*REMEMBER: It is time again for another Family Fun Night.

International Week
We LOVE International Week!!!
We learned so many new facts about Haiti, The Netherlands, Brazil, Korea, and Chile. We tried new foods, listened to music, learned new words, looked at artwork, read stories, and colored pictures from all over the world. A BIG thank you to Madame Cooke and her team for putting together such an exciting week, and to the many parents that shared their traditions and treasures from their heritage (please see separate post from Ms. Ryoo's visit on Korean Day). It has been an amazing week!!

Ms. Ryoo Teaches Us about Korea
On Korean Day, Ms. Ryoo visited our classroom to teach us about Korean culture and traditions. She showed us many beautiful pictures from Korea. She also taught us how to play a fun game called Yut. Ms. Ryoo, thank you for bringing in homemade rice cake snacks, too! They were very tasty!
10th Age Buddies
We met up with our 10th Age Buddies this week and made valentines for the many members of the Calvert community that help us every day. After we decorated our valentines we were able to hand deliver our valentines. Everyone smiled when they received our letters of appreciation, which made us smile, too :)
**Mystery Reader**
This week Mr. Yu visited us as our mystery reader. During his visit, Mr. Yu taught us about the spring festivals that take place in China. His slideshow included photos of a panda bear, a map of China (which looks like a rooster!), dumplings (yum!), fireworks, and lanterns. He also showed us how people decorate their houses for the spring festivals. The colors red and gold are very popular in China. Mr. Yu taught us how Chinese characters are written and read top to bottom and right to left, which is very different from the way we learn to read and write.
Thank you for visiting with us Mr. Yu! We learned so many interesting facts about China! |
Thank you for the tasty chocolate treats, too! |
